Kyler’s Story: A Journey of Faith, Language, and Love

April 4th, 2025

We had the opportunity to interview Kyler and hear about her journey through the Deaf world, hearing world, and Christian world. We love her dearly and are so grateful she allowed us to share it with you.

When Kyler first noticed her infant son, Rylan, wasn’t responding to sound, she began a journey she never expected — one that would stretch her heart, deepen her faith, and open her world.

Despite passing his newborn screening, Rylan was later diagnosed as profoundly deaf. The path to that diagnosis was long and filled with obstacles — delayed testing, skepticism from doctors, and deep questions of grief and uncertainty. But Kyler and her husband, Evan, chose to walk in *faith*.

“If God ordained our son to be Deaf,” she said, “then He entrusted us to be his parents. That means we learn his language.”

They began learning sign language, attending Deaf events, and trying to find a church that could embrace both their *Christian values* and their *son’s language*. A recent cochlear implant surgery has not produced the response they hoped for, but their conviction hasn’t changed.

Whether Rylan hears or not, he is still the image of God, and God has a big plan for him. He is the pioneer of what God has in store.

Now a mom of two, Kyler is navigating what it means to disciple her children in a language she’s still learning. She’s found strength through Deaf Kids Connect, a ministry she calls:

“A bridge between my two worlds: the Christian world and the Deaf world.”

Her heart is to help other parents, like herself, embrace God’s call, walk with joy, and raise their children to know they are *perfectly made*.

“This is the Lord’s story,” she says. “And we trust Him with every step.”

Help parents step into their calling as disciplers of their Deaf children — discovering their connection to the love of Jesus, a bridge between their two worlds: the Christian world and the Deaf world.
