More on Becky

July 29th, 2011

We’re proud to tell you a bit more about Becky Purkey, Outreach Coordinator.

Becky Purkey knows first-hand the power of prayer. Spinning in a storm of health and financial challenges, Becky leaned into her faith and reached out to others to pray in unison with her. God answered in multiple ways, one of which was through reconnecting with childhood friend and Silent Blessings Executive Director Marshall Lawrence. Marshall happened to see one of Becky’s social media posts through a mutual friend and reached out to “catch up.”

Shortly after, Becky mentioned to Marshall that she was hoping to find a part-time job – something mission oriented. She didn’t know that Marshall was looking for someone with her skills to fill a part-time need at Silent Blessings Deaf Ministries, and it had never occurred to her that she might be able to work there.

“I absolutely know that it’s a gift from God,” Becky says about her work with Silent Blessings. “I can’t wait to get here on my work days. I love the people; I love what I do, and I love learning about the Deaf community,” Becky said.

“I pray for Silent Blessings every morning. I just want everyone who is Deaf to know that they are loved.”

Becky has an important role at Silent Blessings. As Outreach Coordinator, she helps churches by providing resources to develop programs for Deaf individuals. Becky also arranges presentations about Silent Blessings in churches and is currently scheduling free presentations of the inspiring documentary, In A Silent World. Released last fall, In A Silent World chronicles the painful yet triumphant journey of Marshall Lawrence’s family after discovering their daughter, Rachel, was deaf.

“Fewer than 4% of Deaf individuals claim to have a personal relationship with Christ,” Becky said. “I want to help people in the churches to reach, love and bring Deaf individuals into the Kingdom.”

Becky’s story of her path to Silent Blessings could be a footnote to the scripture, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28 KJV).”

We’re happy God brought Becky to Silent Blessings and are confident His continued work through her will help many in the Deaf community find the love of Christ.
